Lawrence “Larry” Gaul – Epworth

Lawrence J. “Larry” Gaul, 79, of Epworth passed away September 19, 2017, at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Visitation will be held from 2 – 8 pm Sunday, September 24, 2017, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville.

Visitation will continue Monday, September 25, 2017, from 9:30 – 10:45 am in the Breitbach Room at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Peosta.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am Monday, September 25, 2017, St. John the Baptist Church in Peosta.  Rev. Michael Schueller will officiate.  Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Luxemburg where American Legion Post 137 will accord military honors.

Larry was born on February 15, 1938, near New Vienna, IA the son of Alphonse and Regina (Fangmann) Gaul. He graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1956. He served in the United States Army from 1958-1960, in Germany.  He married Dolores Wente on November 17, 1962, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna, Iowa. Together they farmed the family farm where he was born and raised. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Luxemburg and served as a lector for many years. His love of photography led him to serve 25 years as a videographer for the Archdiocese of Dubuque. In retirement, Larry enjoyed driving his team of horses in area parades.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores; children: Linda Gaul of Indianapolis, IN, Craig Gaul of New Vienna, Tom (Martina) Gaul and Jay (Lora) Gaul, both of Luxemburg, and Jenny Gaul of Rochester, MN; grandchildren: Brandon (fiancé Brittany Dolphin), Dillon (friend Katie Koopman), Nathan, Taylor, Bailey, Angela, Douglas (friend Sierra Kramer), Jack, and Molly; siblings: Marvin Gaul of Holy Cross, Gerald (Joan) Gaul of Farley, Eldon Gaul of Dyersville, Virgil (Helen) Gaul of Dubuque and Eileen (Richard) Hermsen of Luxemburg; and a sister-in-law, Mary Margaret (Jerome) Lansing of Dyersville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three children in infancy, Angela, Jean, and Matthew; a grandson, Tyler Gaul; siblings: Leander Gaul in infancy, and his twin sister, Laura Meyer, and in-laws: Germaine Gaul, Helen Gaul, Ralph Meyer, and Robert Wente.
