Marian A. Koelker – Petersburg

Marian A. Koelker, 86, of Petersburg died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.

Friends may call from 2 – 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where a parish vigil service will be held at 5 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept 19, 2016, at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. John O’Connor will officiate.

Marian was born May 20, 1930, in Colesburg, Iowa the daughter of Leonard and Catherine (Lansing) Bockenstedt. She married Allan Koelker on June 6, 1950, in Colesburg, Iowa. Together they farmed on the Koelker home farm for over 66 years, all of their married lives. Marian and Bud loved polka music, often traveling with the Northeast Iowa Polka Club to go to dances. She was especially known for her homemade potato salad, oatmeal and bacon. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew her as “Grandma Tootsie” as she often handed out Tootsie Rolls. She had a strong commitment to family and friends, always remembering to call KDST about everyone’s birthday and anniversary.

Survivors include her husband, Allan “Bud”, 4 sons: Chuck (Marilee) Koelker of New Vienna, Terry (Joyce) Koelker, Mike (JoAnn) Koelker and Ron (Sandy) Koelker, all of Dyersville; a daughter-in-law, Kathy (Tim) Sweeney; grandchildren: Barry (Carrie) Koelker, Danielle (Bruce) Ling, Angel (Jason) Kelchen and Carmen (Terry) Dunkel, Jodi (Brandon) Kelley, Rob (Tara) Koelker and Jeff (Annie) Koelker, Jesse (Molly) Koelker, Shelli (Scott) Wilson and Matt (Lindsey) Koelker, Nick (Nicole) Koelker, Leah (Casey) Lechtenberg and Jenna Koelker, and Terra, Brooke and Trent Koelker; 30 great-grandchildren

3 brothers: Fred (Barb) Bockenstedt of Levenworth, WA, Dennis (Judy) Bockenstedt of Petersburg and Dean (Rosalee) Bockenstedt of Edgewood; 4 sisters: Blanche (Albert) Schulte of New Vienna, Leona (Marv) Tauke of Dyersville, Jean (Ken) Kramer of New Port Richey, FL and Phyllis (Jim) Tigges of LasVegas, NV; In-laws: Lois Bockenstedt of Edgewood and Ambrose “Butch” Wegmann of Delhi.

She is preceded in death by her parents 2 children: Theresa in infancy and Todd Koelker; a brother, Leo Bockenstedt, a sister, Patsy Wegmann; in-laws: Mildred Koelker, Evelyn Koelker, LuVern (Anna Mae) Koelker, Lucille (Victor) Vaske, Edmund (Clara) Koelker, Lawrence (Ruth) Koelker, Alma (Clete) Vaske and Cora (Charles) Gerken.

Maxine Preussner – Delhi

preussner-maxine     Maxine Mae Emerson Preussner, 89, of Delhi, Iowa, died at home after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, September 17, 2016.  Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at Delhi United Methodist Church, with Rev. Sam Mack officiating.  Visitation will be Tuesday, September 20, 2016, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Clifton – Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville, and one hour prior to service at the Church.  Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Delhi.

Maxine was born on December 20, 1926 to Roy and Mae Emerson of Silver Creek. She married Donald F. Preussner on September 19, 1953 at Silver Creek and resided in Delhi.

She graduated from Coggon High School in 1944 and received her teaching certification from Iowa Teacher’s College (UNI).

Maxine taught country school prior to her marriage to Don. She was active in the Hannah Circle, assisted Don with the family business, Preussner Truckline, and worked the election board many years.

Maxine enjoyed traveling, the B’s – Bible, Birds and Blooms, she was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking for her family.  Most important to her was spending time with her family.

Surviving are daughters, Cindy Preussner of Marion and Deanna Preussner of Delhi, a son Greg (Nancy) Preussner of Delhi; three granddaughters, Kelly Preussner of Durham, North Carolina, Jessi Preussner of Blacksburg, Virginia, and Emily Preussner of Fayette, Iowa.

Maxine was preceded in death by a son, Brent on November 7, 1980; her husband, Don on April 11, 2000, her parents, Roy and Mae Emerson; and siblings, Francis Graybill, Leslie Emerson, Roy (Junior) Emerson, Margaret McDowell and Alice Carradus.

Patricia “Pat” Nefzger – Earlville

Patricia “Pat” Nefzger, 78, passed away from a sudden illness, surrounded by her family at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Saturday, September 17, 2016. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 21, 2016, from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Clifton – Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville, with a 4:00 p.m. Scripture Service. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 22, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Earlville, Iowa, officiated by Rev. Dennis Quint. Inurnment will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Earlville.
Pat was born September 15, 1938, in Rewey, Wisconsin, the daughter of Loretta Heins. Pat married Arthur Nefzger on April 10, 1958. Pat enjoyed taking care of others, making her famous coleslaw, potato salad, and “Artie” burgers. She loved playing cards, traveling to see her children, listening to music – especially Elvis and classic country, and watching movies with her grandchildren. Pat’s greatest love was her family, children and grandchildren.
Pat is survived her husband, Art; children, Suzy Cockran of Las Vegas; Jeff Nefzger of Earlville, Margie Nefzger of Maryland Heights, Missouri, Chris (Becky) Nefzger of Manchester, Frank (Ellen) Nefzger of Bloomfield Township, Michigan, Jodi (Sean) Blake of Columbia, Missouri; grandchildren, Chastity Nefzger, Nick and Brandon Cockran, Brandi and Allison Nefzger, Shari (Garrett) Soppe, William, Brianna, Sonya, and Harley Nefzger, Matthew and Amber Nefzger, Emily and Keira Blake; twelve great-grandchildren, seven brothers and sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Fern Parkin – Manchester, formerly of Earlville

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 23, 2016, at Earlville United Parish, Earlville, Iowa, with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Earlville. Clifton – Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville, is in charge of arrangements.

Fern was born September 5, 1914, in Earlville, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert and Katherine (Sandercock) Carty.  On October 10, 1935, Fern married Clate Parkin in Dubuque, Iowa. Together they farmed near Earlville. Fern was active in the church and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed polka music, and baking, and watching Wheel of Fortune.

Fern is survived by her son, Ronald (Carolyn) Parkin of Cedar Rapids, two grandchildren, Jeff (Michelle) Parkin of Cedar Rapids and Jamie Parkin of Cedar Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Fern was preceded in death by parents; her husband, Clate on February 11, 1986; two sisters; and a niece.

Franklin Collins – Independence

collilnsfranklinIndependence –  Franklin Leroy Collins, age 85 of Independence, Iowa died Monday, September 19, 2016, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Hope Wesleyan Church in Independence, with Rev. Bob Solon and Rev. Donald Glazier officiating.  Friends and family may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23rd, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.

Franklin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty, a son, David (Belkis) Collins of Independence, Iowa, a daughter, Janet (Darrin) Margheim of Hopkins, Minnesota, 1 grandson, Joshua Margheim, and 3 step grandchildren, Daniela Alexandra Torraglosa Colon, Alberto Luis Ariza Colon, and Derek Margheim.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Franklin was born on May 31, 1931 at People’s Memorial Hospital in Independence, Iowa, the son of Mervin Lester and Edith Elizabeth (Andrews) Collins.  He graduated from high school in Lamont, Iowa, with the Class of 1950.  On June 7, 1958, he and the former Betty June Sheldon were married at the First Baptist Church in Lamont, Iowa.

Franklin lived on the farm 1 mile north of Lamont that his great grandparents Dinah and Dr. Albert B. Collins purchased in 1869.  He and his father raised purebred Jersey cattle.  In 1950 he started his own cleaning agency, doing cleaning and painting.  In 1955 he was employed by G.W. Vargason as an Interior Decorator and worked at that job until July of 1960 when he started working at the Mental Health Institute in the office of Medical Records.  He retired from the Mental Health Institute in December of 1992.  In 2000, he took the job as church janitor at Hope Wesleyan Church and he and Betty worked together cleaning until 2012.

He has had a full life and was always busy.  Betty and Franklin enjoyed many years of square dancing.  He was a tour guide at the Mental Health Institute for several years.  He has always been a church worker.  After graduation from high school he became a youth counselor for the junior and senior high youth groups at the First Baptist Church at Lamont.  He was senior adult choir and youth choir director there and directed a number of cantatas and several plays.  After moving to Independence in 1972, he became choir director at the Foursquare Church.  He and Betty taught the little children’s Sunday School class and after becoming members of Hope Wesleyan Church, he helped Betty teach 2 and 3 year olds.  He was also Sunday School superintendent.

In 1986, at the age of 55, he took motorcycle riding lessons and bought a new 450 Honda.  He jointed a photo club here in Independence and has taken an enormous amount of pictures all his life, including a few wedding pictures with his son, David, assisting.  In 1995, he began taking organ lessons; something he had always wanted to do.  He purchased a large two keyboard organ.  He enjoyed playing and even played at concerts and at Bishop’s Cafeteria in Waterloo.

He enjoyed traveling and traveled all over the United States and most of Canada and also in Mexico.  Franklin took cross country skiing lessons and skied with David in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  He loved growing flowers and did a lot of flower arranging.

He enjoyed people and enjoyed eating out with friends and family.  He has really enjoyed his grandson, Joshua.

Joan V. Dunkel – Manchester

joan-dunkel-photoJoan Victoria (Herbers) Dunkel, 89, of Manchester, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Marietta’s Place in Manchester. She was born on January 31, 1927, in New Vienna, the daughter of Joseph F. and Anna T. (Steffen) Herbers. Joan graduated from St. Boniface High School in New Vienna.

Joan attended Mount Mercy College. She was involved in the compiling of the 1945 Clarke College Red Book of Recipes which was a collection of recipes and menu suggestions.

On June 13, 1950 Joan was united in marriage to Nicholas Edmund Dunkel, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna. They farmed in Bellevue until 1956, when they moved to their current farm in Manchester. They enjoyed traveling and family outings.

Joan was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester. She served as President of the Rosary Society and did many projects including a fashion show. Joan was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She enjoyed going to dances, playing cards, crossword puzzles, needlework, quilting, and gardening.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Nick; her five children, Beth (Jim) Westpfahl of Sergeant Bluff, Sandra Bunce of Anamosa, Neal (Karrie) Dunkel of Manchester, Brian (Colleen) Dunkel of Barrington, Illinois, and Denise (Kevin) Dirth of Muscatine; many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a brother, Father Simon Herbers of Houston, Texas.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Patricia Burns; a brother, Urban Herbers; and a sister, Sister Gabriel Herbers.

The family would like to thank the loving and caring staff at the Manchester Good Neighbor Home; their care was exceptional.

Keith J. Wilgenbusch – Winthrop

WINTHROP – Keith Joseph Wilgenbusch, 42 years old of Winthrop, IA, died Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Regional Medical Center, Manchester, IA.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Friday, September 23, 2016, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Winthrop, with burial at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery at Monti.

Visitation will be from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday and from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday at the White Funeral Home, 400 First Street West, Independence, IA. There will be a Parish Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family for charitable purposes including a scholarship fund established for agriculture in Keith’s name.

Keith was born July 28, 1974, in Manchester, IA, the son of Kenneth John Wilgenbusch and Kathleen Marie (Lutter) Wilgenbusch. He attended school in Winthrop and graduated from East Buchanan High School with the class of 1992. He then earned an associates degree in Swine Management from Ellsworth Community College at Iowa Falls, IA. On May 29, 2004, he was united in marriage to Jill Frances Fox at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Winthrop. They and their children have made their home south of Winthrop where Keith was engaged in farming for several years. Keith was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Winthrop and a member of the Buchanan County Pork Producers. He enjoyed and loved his family very much. Whether it was planning 4-H projects, hunting, fishing or camping, being with family was the best. He also loved farming, raising crops and livestock. In 2015, Keith was honored as an Iowa Master Pork Producer through the Iowa State Extension and Out Reach Program.

Keith is survived by his wife, Jill of Winthrop; one son, Keegan Wilgenbusch and three daughters, McKenna, Corbin and Keira Wilgenbusch all at home; and (foster) daughter, Alisa Nelson of Independence; his parents, Ken and Kathy Wilgenbusch of Manchester; three brothers, John (Jessi) Wilgenbusch of Manchester, Craig (Kris) Wilgenbusch of Masonville, Nicholas Wilgenbusch of Winthrop and friend Breatta Schmitz; four sisters, Denise (Chad) Lympus of Rowley, IA, Karrie (Jeff) Hempstead of Central City, IA, Janene (Mike) Widen of St. Paul, MN, Katie (Drew) Johnson of Fairfield, IA; his maternal grandmother, Veronica Lutter of West Des Moines, IA. He is also survived by his father in law and mother in law, Dan and Mary Fox of Jesup, IA, brother in law, Troy (Dana Kratky) Fox of Crosby, TX and sister in law, Kari Mason of Crosby, TX; along with many nieces and nephews.

His paternal grandparents, Edward and Leonette Wilgenbusch and maternal grandfather, Merritt Lutter, preceded him in death.

Gene Robbins – Strawberry Point

Gene Robbins, 76, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at his home. He was born on September 28, 1939, in Mederville, the son of Vernon and Maxine (Nading) Robbins. Gene was raised and educated in the area.

On March 31, 1962, Gene was united in marriage to Sandra Wistrick in Strawberry Point. Four children were born to this union. Sandra passed away in 2009.

Gene worked as a carpenter for a short time. He worked at Iowa Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids and then for Energy Manufacturing in Monticello for 20 years.

Gene enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He especially liked spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his four children, Roxanne (significant other, Mike Franck) Greve of Central City, Luanne Ventura of Manchester, Suzanne Letts of Dubuque, and Randy (Elena) Robbins of Nevada; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Ardola (Ronald) Maser of Oelwein, Merna (Vance) Gregerson of Cedar Rapids, Gary (Kim) Robbins of Mallard, Carol Marshall of Tomah, Wisconsin, and Jerry (Linda) Robbins of Boscobel, Wisconsin.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Sandra; one grandson, Robert Robbins; two brothers, Dale and Lavern Robbins; and one sister, Lola Jane Robbins, in infancy.

Daniel E. Rahe – Dyersville

Daniel E. Rahe, 69, of Dyersville died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

Friends may call from 2 – 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville. Visitation will continue Monday from 9 – 10 am at the funeral home prior to Mass.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Jeff Dole will officiate.

Dan was born April 10, 1947, in Dyersville the son of Leroy and Wilma (Klostermann) Rahe. He was united in marriage to Jolene Come on Nov. 23, 1968 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Farley. Dan worked at Floyds Feed Store for 20 years before selling feed on his own. In later years he drove a tour bus for Bradley Jo and Windstar Lines. Most recently he was a driver for Bard Concrete. Dan was a man with many hobbies through the years, but his greatest joy was time spent with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Jolene, two children: Troy Rahe of Dyersville and Corinne (Cory) Ramler of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Jack and Alyssa Ramler; three brothers: Gary (Dee) Rahe of Dyersville, Jeff (Deb) Rahe of Dubuque and Daryl Rahe of Cedar Rapids; two sisters: Kathy Chapman of Fairfax and Diane (Frank) Klostermann of Atkins; three brothers-in-law: Ken (Diana) Comer of Farley, Jerry (Joyce) Comer of Dyersville, and Randy Comer of Dubuque; three sisters-in-law: Donna (Pat) Strief of Farley, Lori (Don) Allen of East Dubuque, IL, and Gail (Bruce) Maiers of Cedar Rapids, and many loving nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Stella Comer, and three nieces.

Joseph Arnold Weber – Holy Cross

Joseph Arnold Weber, 80, of Holy Cross died at home in the presence of loved ones on September 21, 2016.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2016, at Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross where a parish vigil service for family members will be held at 1:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2016, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Noah Diehm will officiate.

Joe was born on January 1, 1936 to Marie (Lansing) and Arnold Weber of Colesburg, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 and married Elizabeth (Betty) Henkels on November 19, 1958 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Together they lived on their farm near Holy Cross for 58 years where they raised seven children.

In addition to farming and raising Angus beef cattle, Joe worked as a machinist for John Deere in Dubuque for 33 years. He had a passion for family, walleye fishing, card playing, country music and telling stories. He loved a good practical joke, visiting with friends, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Betty, children Laurie (Sam) Helling of Dubuque, Lynn (Dave) McCormick of West Des Moines, Cathy (Rich) Russell of Dubuque, Becky (Ken) Veit of Jefferson City, Missouri, Caroline (Jeff) Hicks of Bettendorf, Jeffrey (Jane Schilling) of Petersburg, and Michael (Michelle) of Dubuque, grandchildren Matt and Nick Helling, Patrick and Steven McCormick, Evan Russell, Zachary, Elizabeth, and Adam Veit, Andrew and Emily Hicks, Maria (fiancé Sam) and Jacob Weber, Peyton and Riley Weber.

Joe is survived by his sisters Catherine Westhoff, Joan (Ray) Nurre and Donna Kruse of Dyersville, Angeline (Dick) Haupert and Connie Weber of Dubuque; his brothers Jim (Mary) Weber of Cedar Rapids and John (Deb) Weber of Longmont, Colorado; brother-in-law Charlie Nurre of Strawberry Point.

Joe is welcomed into heaven by loved ones, including his parents Arnold & Marie Weber, his sister Alice Nurre, parents-in-law Loretta & Gebhard Henkels, brothers-in-law John Kruse and Roland Westhoff, and Betty’s uncle Ray Ellerbach who lived and helped on the farm for many years.

Milton R. Champney – Manchester

Milton R. Champney, 87, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester. He was born on December 19, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Frederick and June Nettie (McCune) Rose. Milton graduated from Armstrong High School in 1948 and then attended college for two years in Estherville. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1951-53.

On August 24, 1950, Milton was united in marriage to Johannah Dolf in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Three children were born to this union. Milton worked at Iowa Electric and then at a gas station. He then worked for over 27 years for a Chevrolet dealership as a mechanic. Milton also worked as a diesel truck mechanic in Illinois before becoming a maintenance supervisor for ACCO.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Johannah Champney, of Manchester; his three daughters, Deborah (Dan) Vigdal of Eagan, Minnesota, Colleen (Curt) Meyer of Manchester, and Cindy (Paul) Wang of Palatine, Illinois; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Milton was preceded in death by his parents; his adoptive father, Cecil Champney; three brothers; and two sisters.

Linda Faye Oberbreckling – Coggon

Linda Faye Oberbreckling, 66, of Coggon, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Linda was born on February 28, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Gerald and Shirley (Cozart) Gates. She was raised and educated in the Winthrop area, graduating from East Buchanan High School in 1969. Linda then attended N.I.T.I. in Peosta for two years.

On July 26, 1969, Linda was united in marriage to Daniel Oberbreckling at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lamont. Four children were born to this union. They lived near Winthrop for over 35 years before moving near Coggon in 2009. After raising her children, Linda worked at the Sisler Insurance Agency in Coggon for 13 years.

Linda liked attending concerts and listening to country music. She enjoyed gardening, watching birds, especially hummingbirds, and caring for her grandchildren.

Survivors left to cherish her memory include her husband of 47 years, Daniel Oberbreckling of Coggon; her children, Angela Faust of Troy Mills, Bernie (Stacey) Oberbreckling and Jason Oberbreckling all of Coggon, and Melinda (Brian) Bildstein of Ryan; seven grandchildren, Daden Oberbreckling, Jayce Oberbreckling, Otto Oberbreckling, Jacob Faust, Ella Oberbreckling, Kasten Oberbreckling, and Braxton Bildstein; and five siblings, John (Sheri) Gates of Eagle Grove, Ann Gates of Raymore, Missouri, Gerald (Diana) Gates of Aurora, Allen (Debbie) Gates of Vanceboro, North Carolina, and Janice Patton of Raeford, North Carolina.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Robert in 1979, Roger in 2003, and Chris in 2015.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2016, at Troy Mills Christian Church in Troy Mills, Iowa. Officiating: Pastor Don McGarvey

Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 PM Wednesday, Sept. 28 and until 10:30 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home in Winthrop

Gladys M. Knipper, 83, of Dyersville, Iowa died Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at Manor Care in Dubuque, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 2 – 7 pm Friday, September 30, 2016, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW, Dyersville, Iowa where a parish scripture service will be held at 2 p.m. and an American Legion Rosary will be recited at 4 pm. Visitation will continue Saturday, Oct. 1, from 8:30 – 9:30 am at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am Oct. 1, 2016, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate.

Gladys was born on June 28, 1933, in Holy Cross, Iowa the daughter of Anton and Susan (Ries) Maiers. She was united in marriage to Virgil Knipper on June 21, 1954, in Holy Cross, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 2009.

Gladys enjoyed waitressing at the Roundup Room, the Knight Light and Dyersville Family Restaurant. She will be remembered by a generation of Beckman High School Students as the lunch lady. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 137.

Survivors include her children: Kevin, Keith (Kate) and Karla Knipper, all of Dyersville, and Kurt (Katie) Knipper of Whitefish Bay, WI, 5 grandchildren: Charles, William, Paul, Tim, and Erin (fiancé Dean Treanor) Knipper; great grandchildren, Sydney, Nash and Liam Knipper, and Diem Treanor; in-laws, Dorothy Maiers of Dyersville, Paul (Delaine) Knipper of Dyersville, Donna Manternach of Manchester, and Harold Heyer of Merced, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Virgil, siblings: Norma (Fred) Wessels, Merlin “Dixie” Maiers; in-laws: Nellie (Richard) Steffen, Anita (Albin) Wulfekuhle, Gladys Heyer, and Gerald Manternach.

The family would like to thank the staffs at Manor Care and Hospice of Dubuque, and Dr. Janes for the excellent care of our mother.

Scott, 62 years old, of Center Point, Iowa, died at her home in Center Point on September 28, 2016.  She was born on February 24, 1954, in Dewitt, Iowa, the daughter of Joe Alan and Joan Rose (McDonnell) Dunn.  She graduated from high school in Moline, Illinois, in 1972.  She earned a B.A. degree from Mt. Mercy in 1992, and a M.A. in rehabilitation counseling from the University of Iowa in 1994.  On September 1, 1973, she and Mike William Scott were married in Independence, Iowa.  She retired from Rockwell Collins in 2011 where she was a test technician.  She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Center Point, the I.B.E.W. Local #1362, and the Civil Air Patrol.  She enjoyed time spent woodworking, scrap booking, sewing, painting, and taking pictures.

Mrs. Scott is survived by her husband of 43 years, Mike, 1 daughter, Michelle (Lee Johnson) Scott of Swisher, 3 sons, Nicholas (Sarah) Scott and Lucas (Megan Smith) Scott, both of Cedar Rapids, and Brandon (Taylor) Scott of Center Point, and 8 grandchildren.  She is also survived by 3 brothers, Joe (Theresa) Dunn of Camanche, Brian (Amy) Sheridan of Walcott, and Archie Rose of Moline, Illinois, and 4 sisters, Kathie Reisdorph of Grand Island, Nebraska, Cheryl (Melvin) Six of Fairview Heights, Illinois, Lori Brice of San Antonio, Texas, and Arlette Crowe of Moline, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 3, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, with Rev. h-andrew-brownHarland Andrew Brown, 68, of Lancaster, California, died on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, doing FEMA Disaster Relief.  Andy was born on April 9, 1948, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Harland and Rita (Gaffney) Brown.  He grew up in Independence and was a graduate of St. John’s Catholic High School.  He also was a 1970 graduate of the University of Iowa where he received a B.A. degree in history and accounting.

Andy worked for Merrill Lynch Wealth Management and then was an Assistant Vice President of Investments at Wedbush Morgan Securities in Los Angeles, working as a financial consultant until retiring.  After retirement, he took a position with FEMA.

Andy loved to travel and research genealogy, researching family history for his family and others.  He loved the beach and California.  Andrew was well respected for his historical studies along with genealogy.

Survivors include his seven siblings, Lorna Koeninger of Yukon, Oklahoma, Marsha Petersen of Shelbyville, Illinois, Georgia Dougherty of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Brenda Trostel of Newton, Nina Hoppe of Cedar Rapids, Terrance Brown of Kellogg, and Cecil Brown of Manchester.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Cynthia, at birth.

Mary Jane Boeckenstedt – New Vienna

Mary Jane Boeckenstedt, 79, of New Vienna, died on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester to join her husband for his 81st birthday party in Heaven.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 7, 2016, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where a parish vigil service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday from 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 8, 2016 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. John O’Connor will officiate.

Mary Jane was born February 13, 1937 in Dubuque the daughter of Clarence H. and Florence (Schneider) Fangmann. She married Robert H. Boeckenstedt on August 20, 1960 in New Vienna. He preceded her in death in 1995. Mary Jane worked for over 40 years as a registered nurse beginning her career in Dubuque followed by 37 years at Mercy Hospital in Dyersville. She was awarded a certificate of achievement from the State of Iowa for her 40 plus years of nursing service. Mary Jane volunteered at the New Vienna Historical Society, the Mercy Hospital Gift Shop and St. Boniface Parish. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, reading, crocheting, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include 3 sons: Steven (Lori) of Dyersville, Kenneth (Sue Basten) of Edgewood and Timothy of Dyersville, grandchildren: Stephanie, Jennifer, Michael, Amber, Heather Boeckenstedt, siblings: Jean Ann (Leon) Gaul of Dubuque, in-laws: Shirley Moore of Monticello, Carl (Mary) Boeckenstedt of LaMotte, Jim (Betty) Boeckenstedt of Earlville and Pat (Kay) Boeckenstedt of Dyersville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, parents-in-law, Joseph and Celestine Boeckenstedt, Sister and Brother-in-law, Ruth Boeckenstedt and Richard Moore.

The family would like to thank the Dyersville and Dubuque Mercy medical staff, Good Neighbor Home and the Hospice of Comfort of Manchester.

Wanda M. Ash – Edgewood

ash-picWanda Mae Ash, 93, of Edgewood, Iowa, died on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.  She was born on March 17, 1923, in Edgewood, the daughter of Donald E. and Clara M. (Shaw) Rhines.  Wanda was raised and educated in the area and was a1940 Greeley graduate.  She attended Upper Iowa University for two years.

 

On March 16, 1942, Wanda was united in marriage to Clay Ash in Lancaster, Missouri.  Wanda was employed as a dental assistant and bookkeeper.

 

Wanda was a devoted and faithful member of the United Methodist Church, the church choir, prayer group, and UMW Circle.  She volunteered many hours at the Edgewood Convalescent Home.  Wanda was a wonderful cook and she dearly loved spending time with her family.

 

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 74 years, Clay Ash of Vinton;  three children, Glory (Randy) Ohrt of Vinton, Quentin (Marcia) Ash of Littleton, Colorado, and Danny (Linda) Ash of Colesburg; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two siblings, Donald (Ilo) Rhines, Jr. of Edgewood, and Jeanine Rodas of Elkader; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Jason Ash; a sister, June (Jack) Miller; brother-in-law, Marvin Rodas.
