Marleen June Heuer, 78, passed away on Thursday morning, December 22, 2016, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader after a series of illnesses.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on April 10, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, Iowa. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.

Lee E. Voelker – Marion

Lee E. Voelker, 77, of Marion died Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.  Visitation:  1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 9, 2017, at  Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa, where a parish vigil service begins at 1:00 p.m.  Funeral Mass:  10:30 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2017, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, by Father Steve Garner.  Burial:  Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

 

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Beverly; children, Charles (Jolene) Egan of Las Vegas, Nevada, David (Tasha) Egan of Marion, Larry, Lori, Scott, Aaron, and Sara; many grandchildren, including Ashley Egan, Bradly Egan, Kara Egan, and Emma Egan; several great grandchildren, including Kali Mallie; one brother; and one sister.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Casper and Jane (Miller) Voelker, and a son, Robert Egan.

 

Lee was born on August 16, 1939, in Stanwood, Iowa.  He graduated from West Delaware High School in Manchester, Iowa.   Lee was a longtime contractor and carpenter who will be remembered for his work on several large projects in the Cedar Rapids area including Westdale Mall, Higley Mansion, and the Five Seasons Center.  He married Beverly Ann (Weber) Egan on June 1, 1991, in Coggon, Iowa.

 

Lee was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Carpenters Union Local #308 of Cedar Rapids and served as a volunteer firefighter in several surrounding communities over the years. He was a wonderful and loving father, grandfather, and husband.  Lee took great pride in the time he spent with his family and volunteering at church and in the community.  He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

 

A memorial fund has been established in Lee’s memory to be used in accordance with the family’s wishes.

Betty M. DeKeyser – Manchester

Betty May DeKeyser, 98, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.   Betty was born on May 19, 1918, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of William and Bessie (Seeley) Gage.  She was raised and educated in the Greeley area.

 

On September 1, 1934, Betty was united in marriage to Julius “Joe” DeKeyser in Greeley.  Three children were born to this union.  The couple farmed together in the Manchester and Edgewood area.  They later owned DeKeyser Antiques in Edgewood.  Joe passed away on December 28, 1997. Betty moved to Manchester in 2005.

 

Survivors include her two sons, James (Kino) DeKeyser of Manchester and William (Peg) DeKeyser of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

 

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe DeKeyser; her daughter, JoAnn DeKeyser Bruns; her grandson, Theodore Moleski-Kane; and her six siblings.

Neil F. “Schnitz” Hirtz – New Hampshire

Neil F. “Schnitz” Hirtz, 67, of Litchfield, New Hampshire passed away Monday, March 27, 2017, at 7:20 am, in Manchester, New Hampshire after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

 

A Celebration of Life Service was held at 10 am, Friday, April 14, 2017, at the St. Francis Cemetery Chapel in Dyersville.  Rev. Dennis Quint officiated.  Friends and relatives gather at 9 am at the chapel.  Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville is assisting the family.

 

Neil was born in Anamosa, Iowa on July 24, 1949, the son of Paul and Grace (Schockemoel) Hirtz.  He was raised in Temple Hill, Iowa before moving to Dyersville during his junior year in high school.  He finished his senior year at Beckman Catholic High School with the Class of 1967.  He was a man of few words but had a very kind heart and loved to make people laugh.  His passion was going to car races.  He worked as a trucker and mechanic.  As a mechanic he enjoyed taking cars and motorcycles apart, only to put them right back together again.  He enjoyed playing countless games of gin rummy with family and friends.

 

Survivors include his companion, Mona Zaker, of Litchfield, NH; his daughter, Lisa (Joe) Ward of Pelham, NH; a grandson, Cameron Ward of Pelham, NH; Mona’s daughter, Donna (Brian) Henderson of Peterborough, NH; Donna’s son, Joshua Zaker of Virginia Beach, VA; siblings: Carol (LeRoy) Ruden of Dyersville, Gary (Kathy) Hirtz of Durango, Greg Hirtz of Dyersville, Doug Hirtz of LaMirada, CA, stepsiblings: John (Pam) Hinrichs and Kathleen (Jim) Hall, both of Cedar Rapids; several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Jeff Hirtz and Julie Wemmer.

Charlene A. Gafford – Hazleton

Hazleton –  Charlene A. Gafford, 50 years old, of Hazleton, Iowa, died at her home on Wednesday, April 5, 2017.  She was born on August 23, 1966, in Sacramento, California, the daughter of Charles Melvin and Jane Ann (Metzger) Bowser.  She attended school in Ohio.  Before becoming disabled, she was a telemarketer fund raiser for the Policeman’s Association.  She was a member of the Calvary Evangelistic Center in Independence, Iowa.

Mrs. Gafford is survived by 1 daughter, Amanda Bowser of Waterloo, Iowa, 3 sons, Nathaniel Bowser of Oelwein, Iowa, and Dru Bowser and Michael Bowser, both of Hazleton, 1 granddaughter, and 1 brother, Stephen Bowser of Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Clarence M. Bitterman – Independence

Independence –  Clarence M. Bitterman, 82 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Thursday, April 6, 2017. He was born on September 12, 1934, in Cerro Gordo County near Nora Springs, Iowa, the son of Fred LeRoy and Gladys Lucille (Palmer) Bitterman.  He graduated from high school in Hazleton, Iowa, with the Class of 1952.  On June 22, 1953, he and the former Marian D. Reiter were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein, Iowa.  Mr. Bitterman worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 37 years.  He retired in 1990.  After that, he was a truck driver for Hawkeye Tile in Jesup, Iowa, and Miller Quarry in Independence.  He was an accomplished wood worker.  He made furniture and clocks among other items for friends and family.  And he enjoyed time spent fishing in northeast Iowa.  Mr. Bitterman was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence.

 

Mr. Bitterman is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marian, 3 sons, Robert (Marlys) Bitterman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Gerald (Rhonda Ramler) Bitterman of Manchester, Iowa, and Steve (Rhonda) Bitterman of Independence, 2 daughters, LuAnn Sand of Independence and Sheri (Keith Hartkemeyer) Bitterman of Rowley, Iowa, 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Doretta Brandhorst of Waterloo.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Robert Aery, 1 brother, Robert, in infancy, 1 brother-in-law, William Brandhorst, and 1 son-in-law, John Sand.

 

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 10, 2017, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence with Rev. Greg DeBoer officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Sue was born August 11, 1941, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of John Allen and Winifred Mae (Kimball) Martin, Sr.  Sue was a member of the last graduating class of Dundee High School in 1959. On June 12, 1959, Sue was united in marriage to Kenneth Gentz in Manchester, Iowa. Sue was a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed cooking, canning, bird watching, and flower gardening. She loved the scripture she lived by, caring for others, and her family.

Sue is survived by her husband, Kenny Gentz of Manchester; children, Kendy (David) Reiss of Manchester, Kay (Craig) Mulder of Manchester, Jeff (Marianne) Gentz of Circle Pines, Minnesota, Tonya (Steve) Naber of Dyersville, and Chad (Terry) Gentz of Abilene, Kansas; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Merry Beth Baker of South Beloit, Illinois; three sisters-in-law, Marlene Henneberg of Colorado, Fran Martin of Manchester, and Marlene Ryan of Dundee.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents: one great-granddaughter, Laina; two brothers, John Allen Martin and Gerald Curtis Martin; and two sisters, Julie Ann Kluiter and Linda L. Entsminger.

Judith D. Wilhelm – Dyersville

Judith Dorothy (March) Wilhelm, 74, of Dyersville, Iowa passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017, at home surrounded by her family.

Visitation will be held from 2 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where a parish vigil service will be held at 2 pm.  Visitation will continue Wednesday from 9-10 am at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 12, 2017, St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate.

Judy was born October 22, 1942, in Dyersville, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Germaine (Lammers) March. She grew up in Worthington, Iowa, graduating in 1960 from the former St. Paul’s School. She was united in marriage to Henry J. Wilhelm on April 28, 1962, at St. Paul’s Parish in Worthington, Iowa. Together they raised their family in Dyersville. For over fifty years, Judy worked as a childcare provider, and was fondly known to many as “Grandma Judy.” She has blessed many with her handmade gifts, especially her hand knitted Christmas stockings. Judy especially enjoyed researching her family’s heritage and genealogy, as well as putting puzzles together. Judy was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Parish in Dyersville.

She is survived by her husband, Henry of 54 years of marriage; six children: Ann (Paul) Rechterman of Coggon, IA, Debbie (Carl) Vorwald of New Vienna, IA, Donald “Donnie” (Kathleen) Wilhelm of Epworth, IA, Tammy (James) Clemen of Dyersville, IA, Tina (Gerald) Trowbridge of Urbandale, IA, and John (Bridget) Wilhelm of Peosta, IA; 16 grandchildren: Doug (Danielle) Fortmann, Jessica (Collin) Mack, Brian, Tim, Kristina, and Matthew Vorwald; Nichole, Rebecca, Kaitlyn, and Joseph Clemen; Dominic, B’Elanna, and Remy Trowbridge; and Lucy, Henry, and Patrick Wilhelm; 4 great grandchildren, with another 2 expected in May; siblings: Rosemary (Robert) Lahr of Manchester, IA, William “Bill” (Mary Lou) March, of Hopkinton, IA, Jean Harbaugh of Tucson, AZ, Joan (William) Lansing of Worthington, IA, Joyce (Ronald) Dudley, of Anchorage, AK, John “Jack” (Mary Pat) March of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Dean March, of Dubuque, IA, David (Claudia) March of Balltown, IA, Donald (Carol) March of Dubuque, IA, Walter (Dianne) March of Worthington, IA, and Pam Pasker of Tucson, AZ; In-laws: James (Norma) Wilhelm, Tom (Judy) Wilhelm, Mary Ann Nachtmann, and Charles (Donna) Wilhelm, all of Dyersville, IA, and Jean (Gerald) Conrad of Epworth, IA, and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy M. Grawe – Independence

Dorothy May McComb Grawe, 93, of Independence, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Lexington Estates in Independence.  She was born on December 27, 1923, in rural Peosta, the daughter of Clifford Jay and Helen Elizabeth (Rosser) McComb.  Dorothy graduated from East Waterloo High School, Waterloo, Iowa, with the class of 1941.  She then attended and graduated from Dickinson Secretarial School in Waterloo.  Dorothy worked in accounting for many years and for the Willard General Hospital in Manchester for ten years.

 

On December 17, 1946, Dorothy was united in marriage to James E. Grawe in Waterloo.  The couple farmed together for many years.

 

Survivors include her cousins, James (Jean) Zarifis of Waterloo, and Frank (Ann) Zarifis of Cedar Rapids.

 

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, James Grawe, on December 12, 2012.

James L. “Jim” Broghammer, 85, of Manchester, Iowa, died Monday, April 10, 2017. Jim was born May 26, 1931, in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Eulalia (Moser) Broghammer. He was a graduate of St. John’s High School in Ryan, Iowa. Jim served honorably in the United States Army and was a Korean War Veteran. On February 8, 1956, Jim married Anna “Marie” Mulvehill at Immaculate Conception Church in Masonville. Together they farmed for over 34 years. Following, Jim served as the secretary, treasurer and caretaker of the Manchester Cemetery Company for nearly 20 years, for both Oakland and St. Mary’s Catholic Cemeteries. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Ryan American Legion.
Jim is survived by his wife, Marie Broghammer of Manchester; children, Tom (Diane) Broghammer of Central City, Betty (Steve) Eckebrecht of Valrico, Florida, Kay (David) Johnson of Sunnyvale, California, Carol (Tom) Krogmann of Manchester, and Bill (Cheri) Broghammer of Anamosa; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Tony Broghammer of Manchester; one sister, Ann (Leon) Neimann of Lakewood, Colorado; brother-in-law, Don (Betty) Mulvehill of Pleasant Hill; sister-in-law, Eileen (Tom) Brunow of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sisters-in-law, Delrose Broghammer, Catherine Quint and Peggy Mulvehill; and brother-in-law, Vernon Quint.

Eldora C. Ploessl – Guttenberg formerly of Holy Cross

Eldora C. Ploessl, 82, of Guttenberg formerly of Holy Cross, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Ennoble Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Dubuque after her courageous battle with cancer.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017, at Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross. A continued visitation will be held in the Immaculate Conception Church Hall in North Buena Vista starting at 9:30 a.m. prior to funeral services Tuesday.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Buena Vista, Iowa, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Marvin Bries will officiate.

Eldora was born August 5, 1934, in Holy Cross, the daughter of Ervin and Clara (Pottebaum) Henkels. She married Francis J. Ploessl on January 17, 1970 in Luxemburg, Iowa. Together they farmed northwest of Holy Cross.
Eldora enjoyed crocheting, quilting and a good card game. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish and volunteered at Oakcrest Manor for many years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

Those left to cherish her memory include her 2 children: Charles (Heidi) Ploessl of Holy Cross and Christine (John) Selchert of Dubuque, 3 granddaughters: Lindsey Ploessl of Dubuque, Chloe and Grace Ploessl of Holy Cross, 2 step grandsons: Andrew (Christina) Selchert of Kansas City, MO, Nickolas (Ashley Quick) Selchert of Dodgeville, WI, 2 step great grandchildren: Carson and Averie Selchert of Kansas City, MO, 2 brothers: Joe (Jeanette) Henkels of Dubuque and Erv (Mary) Henkels of Hiawatha, sister, Anna Marie (Joe) Wille of Garnavillo, in laws: Andrew Jr. Ploessl of Dubuque, Jim Paisley of Balltown, Marvin (Linda) Brimeyer of Sherrill, Lorene Ploessl of Dubuque, Rosemary Ploessl of Holy Cross, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank on April 26, 2002, an infant son, brothers: Raymond and Emmet Henkels, in-laws: Edwin (Margaret), LaVern (Rita), Alvin, James, John, and Donald Ploessl, Pearl (Jim) Klein, Mary Brimeyer, Joan Paisley and Mary Ploessl.

Eldora’s family would like to thank her oncologist, Dr. Lawrence Kukla, the nurses and staff at Medical Associates, Ennoble Skilled Nursing and Rehab, and Hospice of Dubuque for all their kind and compassionate care.

Betty M. Kulper – Garber

Betty Mae (Kraus) Kulper, 87, of Garber, Iowa, passed peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 14, 2017, while residing at the Edgewood Convalescent Home.  Betty fought a courageous battle with kidney failure, never giving up on her dialysis sessions until the very end.  She “fought the good fight”!

 

Betty was born on July 8, 1929, the daughter of LeRoy and Hilda (Gottschalk) Kraus and was raised in the Garber Elkport community.  She attended country school at Volga #2 and the Littleport High School.

 

On January 7, 1946, Betty was united in marriage to Lole Kulper, and together they farmed in the Garber area until Lole’s death in December 2012.  Betty was a devoted member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elkport and Hope Lutheran Church of Littleport.  She served in various capacities in the church, always volunteering for whatever was needed.

 

Betty loved the farm life, gardening and flowers, and her artistic abilities.  She belonged to the Eastern Iowa Artist Association and the Clayton County Artist Association. Betty was recognized for her many paintings of historical buildings and landscapes in our area.  She loved composing poems that corresponded with her paintings and drawings. Betty enjoyed her sewing machine, making quilts and clothing and dolls of all kinds, some of which are on display at the doll museum in Strawberry Point. She also enjoyed making goats milk soap in all different sizes, shapes, and fragrances.  She shared them with everyone.  Betty was devoted to her family, never turning anyone down, whether it was for babysitting, painting, cleaning, cooking, or whatever.  She was always there for us all.

 

Surviving to mourn her passing are her four children, Beverly (Gary) Bahls of Guttenberg, Dennis Kulper and Rodney (Jill) Kulper, all of Garber, and Kevin Kulper of Guttenberg; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

 

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Lole Kulper.

 

Our family would like to thank the staff at the Edgewood Convalescent Home facility for the excellent care they gave to our mother.  Thanks also goes to the staff at the Dialysis Center in Manchester for her five years of treatment, to Pastor Margaret Yackel-Juleen, and to Vicar Clark Baldwin for all of their help.

Independence –  Jean V. Seemann, 90 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at ABCM Rehab. Center of Independence – West Campus, in Independence.  She was born on January 1, 1927, in Fairfax, Iowa, the daughter of Ernst and Marie (Froelich) Andersen.  She attended the Jubilee Lutheran School in rural LaPorte City, Iowa.  On December 3, 1950, she and Earl Elmer Seemann were married at the Zion Lutheran Church – Jubilee in rural LaPorte City.  He preceded her in death in 1979.  Mrs. Seemann was an assembly person at Micro Switch in Independence and Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  At other times she worked at the Independence Middle School, the Wapsipinicon Golf Course, the Wood Duck Inn, Wapsie Valley Creamery, and Corn Blossom.  After she retired, she enjoyed time spent putting together puzzles.  She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence.

Mrs. Seemann is survived by 1 son, Allan (Janice) Seemann of Independence, Iowa, 2 daughters, Marlys (Robert) Bitterman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Nancy (Mike) Shaffer of Winthrop, Iowa, 6 grandsons, Brian (Angela) Seemann, Tim (Kim) Seemann, Michael (Tara) Bitterman, Clint (Mandi) Bitterman, Justin (Alyssa) Shaffer, and Eric (Allison) Shaffer, 9 great grandchildren, Cameron Seemann, Trenton Seemann, Lydia Bitterman, Holly Bitterman, Lily Bitterman, Bo Bitterman, Eddie Shaffer, Sadie Shaffer, and Tate Shaffer, and 1 sister, Christine Bierschenk of Vinton, Iowa.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, Ruth Huck and Hedwig Dillon, and 1 brother, Ernest Andersen.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence with Rev. Scott J. Harris – Edgewood

Scott J. Harris, 50, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester.  He was born on October 24, 1966, in Manchester the son of John E. and Mary Ellen (Callahan) Harris.  Scott was raised and educated as a young child in Greeley until his parents passed away.   He and his twin brother, Steve, then went to live with their older sister, Nancy, and attended Ed-Co schools and graduated with the class of 1985. After graduation, Scott attended NICC and received his Electrical Degree.

Scott and his high school sweetheart, Tammy Helmrichs moved back to Edgewood and  were united in marriage on September 23, 1995,  at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.  Together they made their home in Edgewood for over 25 years.

Scott was currently employed and worked at Kendricks in Edgewood as a log hauler.  He is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, has been on the Edgewood Fire Department for 24 years and was currently the Assistant Fire Chief and Assistant Emergency Management Director.  Scott loved being a member of the Edgewood Fire Department and called them his second family.

Scott cherished the time he spent with his family. He loved to hunt and fish with Colin and watch Madelyn and Colin play sports.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Tammy Harris of Edgewood; two children Madelyn and Colin, both at home; six siblings, Karen Senters of Webster City, Colleen (Roger) Hicks of Manchester, Nancy (Larry) Stroschein of North Liberty, Joan (Al) Ojanen of Plainview, Minnesota, Laura (Ron) Glanz of Manchester, and his twin brother, Steve Harris of Hills;  his mother-in-law, Connie (Ken) Harder of Manchester; one sister-in-law, Pam (AJ) Koloc of Dundee; two brothers-in-law, Troy (Kim) Helmrichs of Petersburg  and Scott (Kim) Helmrichs of Cedar Rapids; 28 nieces and nephews; and 21 great-nieces-and-nephews plus two on the way.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Mary Ellen Harris;  his father-in-law, Gregory Helmrichs; a brother-in-law, Jerry Senters; and a niece, Tina Stroschein.

Ernest H. Wulfekuhle, 80, of Dyersville formerly of Petersburg died Friday, April 14, 2017 at University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa.

 

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, 750 12th Ave. SW.  A continued visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday from 9 until 10 a.m. prior to funeral services.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 20, 2017, at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Petersburg with burial in the church cemetery.  Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate.

 

Ernie was born June 2, 1936 in Earlville, the son of Gregory and Cecelia (Bonert) Wulfekuhle.  He married the love of his life JoAnn Cavagna at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Portland, OR on August 6, 1966.  Ernest and JoAnn moved on their family farm north of Petersburg after their marriage and remained there until his retirement in 2006.

 

Ernie’s life centered around his love of farming, but most importantly, family.  He cherished time spent with his friends, wife, kids, and grandkids. Ernie’s generosity was evident in his involvement in his church parish and Beckman Catholic High School.

 

Survivors include his wife JoAnn, 3 children: Kim Baumler (fiancé Vern Isaac) of Dyersville, Craig (Karen) Wulfekuhle of Petersburg, Kari (Korey) Stillman of Marion, daughter-in-law, Lila Wulfekuhle of Dubuque, grandchildren: Danielle and Cody Baumler of Dyersville, Amie Conrad, Emily, Charley and Zachary Wulfekuhle of Petersburg, Addison and Malorie Stillman of Marion, brother, Joe (Pat) Wulfekuhle of Petersburg, sisters: JoAnn (Eddie) Loeffelholz of Dyersville, Darlene (Joe) Szymusik of Rescue, CA, mother-in-law, Amalia Pienovi of Milwaukie, OR.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Scott P. Wulfekuhle, father-in-law, Joe Cavagna, brother-in-law, John Cavagna, and step-fathers-in-law, David Williams and John Pienovi.

 

Memorials are preferred to Beckman Catholic School.

Ida E. Funke, of Grayslake, Illinois, formerly of Manchester, Iowa, died Saturday, April 15, 2017.  Visitation: 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Bohnenkamp – Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, with a  5:30 p.m. Scripture Service, and additional visitation one hour prior to Mass at the church on Thursday.  Funeral Mass:  11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 20, 2017, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester. Burial: St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.

Ida Elizabeth Funke was born January 14, 1920, in Luxemburg, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin and Clara (Brunsmann) Pasker. She received her education at St. John’s in Ryan, Iowa. On January 4, 1944, Ida was united in marriage to Ralph F. Funke in Ryan. The couple farmed near Ryan until 1973, then moving to Manchester. Ida was employed in the housekeeping department at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester for 12 years. In 2009, Ida moved to Grayslake, Illinois.

Ida was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Golden Age Center in Manchester and the Grayslake Senior Center in Grayslake.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, quilting, gardening, bird feeding and playing the organ.

Ida is survived by her four children, Joan (John) Vcelka of Grayslake, Illinois, John Funke of San Diego, California, Clara Hilsenbeck of Solon, Iowa and Patrick (Melinda) Funke of Villa Park, Illinois; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren; sister, Irene (Don) Salow; and sisters-in-law, Rosemary Pasker, Irene Pasker, Jeannette Pasker, Doris Funke, Lou Mae Funke.

Ida was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ralph in 1994; six brothers, Joseph (Antoinette “Netti”) Pasker, John (Luella) Pasker, William Pasker, Albert Pasker, Leo Pasker Alphonse (Mae) Pasker; granddaughter, Janine Vcelka Kennedy; great-grandson Kennedy; daughter-in-law Amelita Funke; son-in-law John “Jack” Hilsenbeck;  brothers and sisters-in-law, Irene (Edmund) Mensen, Helen (Paul) Vaske, Charlotte (Arnold) Mensen, Art Funke, Edward Funke, Esther (Alfred) Lechtenberg Margie (John) Reinert.

Michael J. Twomey – Manchester

Michael J. Twomey, 68, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away at his home in Manchester on Monday, April 17, 2017. He was born on February 13, 1949, in Winona, Minnesota, the son of Patrick and Betty (Frankosky) Twomey.   He was raised and educated in the area and graduated from Cotter High School in 1967. Mike then attended and graduated from St. Mary’s College in Winona in 1971. In 1974 Mike completed the Mayo Foundation Physical Therapy program.

 

On July 3, 1971, Mike was united in marriage to Mary Boland in Winona.   Three children were born to this union. The family lived in Cedar Rapids and then moved to Manchester. They later divorced. On January 24, 1998, Mike was united in marriage to Mary Recker at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

 

Mike worked at St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids as a physical therapist. In 1984, he opened his own physical therapy practice at the Iowa Medical Clinic in Cedar Rapids. He was the director of the PT Department at the Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Manchester from 1987 to 1994. In 1994, he became co-owner of Eastern Iowa Therapeutics P.C. and TJ Rehab Services LLC in Cedar Rapids. Beginning in 1999, Mike continued as a Staff Physical Therapist with responsibilities in long term care including nursing homes and home health care, serving Delaware and Jones counties and running outpatient offices in Edgewood and Strawberry Point. Mike then worked with Above and Beyond Home Health Care until being forced to retire due to health issues in 2016.   Following his unexpected retirement Mike could be found in his basement, wearing sweatpants, working as a freelance Netflix / YouTube critic.

 

Mike was a true craftsman working with wood. Many of his pieces can be found featured in the homes of his family members across the country. Mike looked forward to his “free” days, adventures meandering across the Midwest, searching for the next antique tool, and sitting on his deck offering unsolicited advice to his unsuspecting neighbors. Mike loved time with family, gourmet cooking, and spending time with his grandchildren.

 

Survivors include his wife Mary Twomey of Manchester; his four children, Erin (Taro) Chalupa of Cedar Rapids, Christopher (Lisa) Twomey of Chicago, Megan (Doug Cole) Twomey of Aurora, Colorado, and Abby (Brian) Hillebrand of Manchester; nine grandchildren, Hermione and Violet Chalupa, Alice, Patrick, and Jack Twomey, Jameson and Finley Cole, Ava Twomey and Theodore Hillebrand; two siblings, Patrick “Tim” (Mary) Twomey of Tacoma, Washington and Kathleen (Joseph) Dolinaj of Cedar Rapids; one nephew, Zachary Dolinaj of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and his first wife, Mary Boland Twomey.

 

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his son Marcus Twomey in 2001; and his grandson, Linus Chalupa in 2008.

Richard D. Clinton – Edgewood

Richard D. Clinton, 66, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, April 18, 2017.  He was born on January 4, 1951, in Littleport the son of Lloyd L. and Winifred Joyce (Conner) Clinton.  Richard was raised in the area and graduated from Central Community School in Elkader in 1969.

 

Richard served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1973.  He was united in marriage to Linda Schwietert in 1974.  Together they lived in Oelwein and they divorced in 1979.

Richard was married to Dawn Lange in 1986.  They lived in Elkader and divorced in 1989.

Richard was employed at Arnold Motor Supply in Oelwein for several years and later years started a lawn business.

 

Richard enjoyed reading, playing video games, the Green Bay Packers, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

 

Survivors include a sister and her family, Dee (Steve) Langel of Dubuque, and their children, Destiny (Mike Hogan) Ortman, Christina (Scott) Geweke, Dustin (Elise Hill) Fannon, and Erin Langel; a brother and his family, Steve (Carol) Ortman of Marquette, and their children, Crystal (Jon) Hartmann, and Steve (Stacey) Ortman, Jr.;  other nieces and nephews, Ron “Charlie”  Conner, Chad Conner, Brandy Carreon, Sherry Hansen, and Greg Ford;  great-nieces-and-nephews, Paige, Trace, Allison, Rachael, Ella, Annie, Mason, Sydney, and Delilah; and a sister-in-law, Sheryl Conner.

 

Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Rieck; his father, Lloyd Clinton; two brothers, Ron Conner and Donald Clinton; grandparents, Beulah and Wilbur Conner, and William and Anna Clinton;  and his second wife, Dawn Lange.
