Jerry Everitt, 81, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at his home. He was born on June 12, 1941, in Volga, the son of Stanley and Clara (Otdoerfer) Everitt. Jerry was raised in the Volga area and was a 1959 graduate of Volga High School.

In 1965, Jerry was united in marriage to Janet Hastings. Three children were born to this union. The couple later divorced. In 1997, Jerry was united in marriage to Janice Taylor.

Jerry and his father bought an old 10-20 IHC tractor and started in the tractor parts business. They also sold used tractors and machinery. As time passed, they started attending farm sales on Saturdays. After Stanley passed away, Jerry, his sons, and his brother-in-law, Don Hastings, continued with the tractor parts, machinery business, and machinery auctions. In 1980, Jerry started having his own tractor and machinery auctions with his best friend, Lyle Klingman, and grew his auctions to be some of the largest in the state of Iowa.

When the parts business declined, Jerry began selling parts on eBay. His
eBay auctions sold all over the world. Jerry enjoyed selling his tractor parts on eBay so much, that he and Janice started going to household and antique sales, getting a wide variety of items to sell on eBay. Some of the best parts of Jerry’s life revolved around going to auctions because “you never know what you were going to see or buy”.

Jerry loved fishing, playing baseball in his younger days, coaching youth baseball in his middle age years, and always liked watching it. He enjoyed going to Texas during the cold winter months. And, of course, he loved anything to do with auctions.

Quite easily, the other parts of Jerry’s life revolved around his children and grandchildren. Family was always a central part of Jerry’s life and with each new grandchild came an opportunity to pass down his love of auctions and continue on the family tradition.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Janice Everitt of Volga; three children, Jeff Everitt of Fennimore, Wisconsin, Julie Jones of Elmhurst, Illinois, and Joel (Shannon) Everitt of Strawberry Point; two stepdaughters, Kari (Jeff Hannen) Coleson of Fairfax and Kelli (Kirk) Postl of Ely; four grandchildren, Jared Everitt, Jordan and Logan Everitt, and Lauren Jones; seven step grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and mother-in-law, Jean Taylor of Manchester.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Howard Taylor; stepdaughter, Kimberly Henry; and step grandson, Cody Henry.
